Frequently Asked Questions

Safety and Equipment
Is the boat safe and in good condition?
Yes, the vessel is currently in survey with the NSW Waterways Authority, which requires comprehensive safety equipment standards and regular safety checks. A safety briefing is given to the charter passengers before embarkation and safety gear will be provided if required. All vessels in our fleet are selected for safety, comfort, quality and cleanliness. We are proud to keep them this way.

What is the maximum capacity of the boat?
20 passengers is the maximum surveyed number allowed on this vessel.
Note: An infant, regardless of age is considered a passenger.

Is the boat safe for children?
Yes, the vessel has safety rails all the way around the boat and children’s lifejackets are available on request.
Children must be under adult supervision at all times.

We would like to have swim from the boat if it is a hot day. Is that OK?
Yes. Anyone contemplating swimming from the boat must sign an Injury Waiver form before entering the water, as you are not covered by the boat’s insurance policy once you leave the charter vessel. The boat is equipped with 1 swim ladder so access to the water is not difficult. A fresh water shower is also located at the rear of the vessel so you can rinse off after your swim.

Is there sun protection on the boat?
As with all monohull yachts, there is minimal protection from the sun in the cockpit area.

What seated areas are available?
Jeanneau 45 provides comfortable, roomy space below decks in the event you and your guests wish to escape the elements above, whether they be too much sun or too much rain. The interior dinette will seat 8 to 10 people in comfort as will the dining table in the cockpit. The galley provides a stove, fridge, freezer, double sink and plenty of counter space for organisation of meals. A CD stereo system in also available with speakers both in the saloon and in the cockpit above.

What toilet facilities are on board?
This vessel is equipped with 2 modern, spacious marine toilets with easy access.

BYO Catering
Are we allowed to bring our own food and drinks?
Yes. We suggest that you bring boat friendly food that requires minimum preparation i.e. platter-style cold foods and any beverages that you require during your charter.

Is there a BBQ on board?
No. The vessel is not equipped with a bbq.

What kitchen equipment is available?
The boat has cutlery, plates and glasses for 20 passengers as well as salad bowls, platters and other basic kitchen items.

Are there tea and coffee making facilities?
There is a gas stove and kettle on board for making tea and coffee. Bring along your own tea, coffee, sugar and milk.

Where can we put our food and drinks?
The boat has a fridge and freezer unit below decks. Additional eskies/cooler are allowed below deck only. Remember that space is limited below deck. Old metal eskies are not allowed as they damage the boat.
Do we need to bring ice for the cooler / esky?
Yes.

Catered Food and Beverage Options
We wish to have our charter catered for, is this possible?
Yes. We can recommend some excellent caterers for you to speak with to design and deliver the perfect menu to suit your budget and taste.

On Tour
Can we have music on board?
Yes, the vessel is equipped with a CD radio system. Bring a selection of your favourite CD’s.

Where can we go during our charter?
We can go to most places in Sydney Harbour. You have the choice of setting your own route or leaving your skipper to organize a route to best suit your group and conditions. A popular option is a city sights cruise, taking in the Sydney Opera House, Fort Denison, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Darling Harbour, Lane Cove River, and the Sydney Fish Markets area. For a relaxing time, we can take you to some great-secluded spots such as Castle Rock, Store or Quarantine Beach for a relaxing BBQ and swim. The options are yours!

We will have visitors to Sydney on board. Is there a way we can find out the interesting and historical points of the harbour?
Yes, please feel free to ask your Skipper about historical locations and information while you enjoy your charter.

Can we extend our charter time during the charter?
Yes. Many people are having such a fantastic time when they are on the water they wish to extend. Should this be the case, please ask the skipper to contact the Office to confirm whether the boat is available for the time requested. Payment must be made either by credit card over the phone or by cash to the Skipper before we will extend the charter period.

Booking and Payment
Can we view the boat before we book our Charter?
Yes. We recommend that our clients view vessels so that they know exactly what the boat has to offer and whether it is suitable for their type of charter.

How do I secure my booking?
A minimum 50% deposit is required to confirm booking, with the balance payable 14 days prior to commencement of the charter.
Upon payment of your deposit, a Skippered Charter Contract will be faxed or emailed to you, confirming details relevant to your charter, which must be signed and returned with final payment. Payment can be made by MasterCard, Visa, Amex, EFTPOS, Electronic Funds Transfer or cash. Bankcard, Cheques and Diners Card are not accepted.

Wet Weather
What happens in the event of rain?
We cannot offer a ‘Blue Sky Guarantee’, however if boating conditions are unsafe, as determined by the principal of Sydney Harbour Escapes, we will re-schedule your booking to another date.
Sailing is an all weather activity…should the weather be inclement, we can provide your crew with wet weather gear.

Preparations and Arrival
What do you advise we bring along for our charter?
As conditions can vary on the water, it is suggested that you bring along a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, swimming costumes, and seasonal jumper. Please wear white-soled shoes or non-marking boating shoes.
Strictly no black soled shoes or stiletto-heeled shoes, as this will damage the decking.

Does our party need to get there before the set time of the charter?
All your party should be at the designated pick up point at least ½ hour prior to your charter time to allow loading of passengers and gear and to enable enough time for the skipper’s safety briefing.
Note: Your charter will start and finish at the times on your contract. If one your party is late arriving at the pick up point and departure is delayed, you will lose some of your charter time on the water.

Can one of our guests be picked up late and dropped off early?
Multiple pick up and drop off points are not permitted. Guests wishing to join the charter late or leave early will have to arrange alternative transportation via water taxi at their own cost. Please ask a Sydney Harbour Escapes team member for contact details.

Boat inspections are welcome by appointment.
